How to Fold a Blanket

You can easily fold your blankets for storage or for decoration. If you are storing your blankets, you can fold them in half several times to make them smaller. If you're displaying your blankets, you can get creative depending on how you want them to look. Whichever way you fold your blankets, it's simple once you get the hang of it!

[Edit]Folding Blankets for Storage

  1. Unfold the blanket completely and lay it on a flat surface. To make it as easy as possible to fold your blanket, it is best to lay it out flat. Hold the blanket in your hands at the shorter edge, and stretch it out flat across your floor.[1]

    • This way, you can easily reach each corner as you make your fold.
  2. Fold the blanket in half. Hold the blanket by the corners, and bring the corners to the opposite side to make your first fold.[2]

    • If your blanket is rectangular, fold it in half lengthwise.
  3. Smooth out any folds or wrinkles using your hands. As you make your folds, run your hands over the top of the blanket starting from the middle outward to remove any creases, folds, or wrinkles.[3]

    • Your blanket will lay flat and neat as longs as there are no wrinkles.
  4. Fold the blanket in half crosswise. Grab the shorter side of the blanket with your hands and bring it over to the opposite side to create your fold.[4]

    • Smooth out any creases or wrinkles after you make your second fold.
  5. Store the blanket as is or continue to fold it in half to make it smaller. If you want your blanket to be folded up smaller for storage, just keep folding it in half until you're satisfied with the size.[5]

    • Keep in mind that if you fold the blanket in half too many times, it may get bulky and not be able to stay folded.

[Edit]Displaying a Throw Blanket

  1. Fold the throw blanket in thirds if you want an orderly display. To neatly fold your throw blanket, bring 1 side to the center, then fold the other side on top. This creates a neat, attractive throw blanket display either for your bed or sofa.[6]

    • You can also hold both of the corners and shake out the blanket so it lays flat.
  2. Fold the throw in half once if you want to display more of the blanket. Simply hold the blanket by the corners on one side and bring them over to the opposite side. If you're folding a rectangular blanket, fold it in half lengthwise to display.[7]

    • This is a great idea if you want to place your throw over the back of your couch or across the bottom of your bed.
  3. Lay the blanket over your couch, chair, or bed. Once you have your blanket folded in half or in thirds, hold it by the edges so the folds stay in place, and gently lay it over top your furniture. You can place your throw blanket anywhere you’d like, such as across the back of your couch or across the foot of your bed.

    • For example, you can lay the folded blanket flat at the base of your bed to create a runner, or you can flip your blanket over the corner of your sofa.[8]
    • In addition, you can drape your folded blanket over the back of a chair.
  4. Run your hands over the blanket to smooth out any creases or wrinkles. After you lay down your blanket, smooth out the surface with your hand so it is flat. If there are any wrinkles, your throw blanket may look messy rather than neat and attractive.

    • Throw blankets add warmth and coziness to any room!

[Edit]Rolling up Your Blanket

  1. Lay your blanket flat on the ground. Hold 2 corners of your blanket, and shake it out so the blanket opens up. Then, drop the blanket to the ground and straighten out any uneven edges.[9]

    • This helps you easily fold your blanket without any creases or wrinkles.
  2. Tuck about of your blanket underneath the rest. Pinch your blanket in the center about from the shorter edge, and lift up on the fabric. Then, tuck the edge of the blanket underneath the rest, starting where you pinched it.[10]

    • This creates the pocket that secures your blanket after you roll it up.
  3. Fold your blanket into 3 equal sections. After you’ve created your pocket, divide your blanket into thirds. Bring one side to the middle, and lay the other side on top. This folds your blanket into 3 equal sections, which makes it easy to neatly roll up your blanket.[11]

  4. Lay about of the blanket on top of the rest. To help you neatly roll the edge, flip about of blanket from the edge closest to you onto the rest of the blanket.[12]

    • This does not have to be an exact measurement. This fold helps you roll the blanket tightly and attractively.
  5. Roll your blanket tightly starting at the side you just folded on top.[13] Once you make your fold, pinch the edge of your blanket in your hands, and stack the end on top of the rest of the blanket. Then, begin rolling your blanket as tightly as you can. Use your hands as guides to keep the blanket secured as you roll it, and continue rolling the blanket until you reach the end.[14]

    • If you are having trouble keeping your blanket rolled tightly, you can unroll your blanket and try again. To neatly tuck your blanket into the pocket, it is important to roll the blanket tightly.
  6. Secure the blanket with your hands so it stays tight. After you finish rolling the blanket, don’t let go! Keep your hands on the blanket at all times so your blanket does not unroll.[15]

    • In addition, you can rest your knee on top of the blanket if you need extra assistance.
    • If you have a friend around, you can ask them to hold the blanket for you as well.
  7. Fold the pocket over the rest of the blanket to keep it neatly rolled up. Peel back 1 corner of the pocket layer you created, and tuck the pocket around the rest of your blanket. With a little force, your blanket will easily slip inside the pocket.[16]

    • Be careful as you do this so your blanket does not unravel.
    • Your blanket is now compact and secured! You can either store it away or pack it for your next trip.

[Edit]Tips

  • Have a friend help you fold your blanket. They can hold the edges and meet you in the middle, for example.
  • If your blanket does not fold right the first time, that’s okay! Simply lay it flat and try again. It may take some practice to neatly fold your blankets.
  • Wash your blanket before storing it, so it’s fresh and ready to use when you unpack it later.[17]
