Using Drop Shadow in Gimp can be a tough thing to figure out if you don't use it regularly or just don't use it at all. Here's how to apply the Drop Shadow feature in Gimp.
Steps
- Open Gimp.
- Create your text.
- Go to Filters > Light And Shadow > Drop Shadow...
- You can change the Shadow effect as you wish, but usually the default settings do the trick.

- Tweak it as needed. Now you already have your Shadow! If you would like it darker, or more dominant, that can be changed in the Edit box.

Tips
- Change the color of the text can give some nice effects too, so be sure to try that out too.
- Fatter font creates a fatter shadow, so try different styles like bold and italic to give nicer effects to it.
Warnings
- Drop shadow might interfere with some other Filters you might be using.
