How to Make Cookie Cutter Appetizers

Many parents are trying to find innovative and creative ways to feed their kids vegetables—from hiding them inside a dish to making them a part of the meal. You probably have not thought that you can also use vegetables to decorate food, and this may be just the thing you need to supply nutrition in a palatable way.

Makes 1 serving.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole wheat tortilla

  • 2 tablespoons low-fat cream cheese

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 cup chopped vegetables, such as carrots, red peppers, green onions, broccoli

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F or 180°C.

  2. Use the cookie cutters to cut multiple shapes from the tortilla.

  3. Spray a cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray.

  4. Place the cut-out tortilla shapes onto the cookie sheet.

  5. Bake them in the oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown.

  6. Mix the cream cheese and garlic powder in a small bowl. Set aside.

  7. Wash and chop the vegetable variety. Try to cut them in bite sized pieces.

  8. Allow the baked tortilla shapes to cool.

  9. Spread the cream cheese mixture onto each cut out shape and decorate with mixed vegetables.
